5 tips for writing a compelling blog post

Writing a compelling blog post, these days, involves creating engaging content, not an easy task. Sometimes it’s quite a struggle to create content that not only ticks the boxes when it comes to search engine optimisation (SEO) but compels your audience to read on.

When it comes to writing a compelling blog post, readers want to read something that they can relate to and that solves an issue they are experiencing. Although it may appear to be a daunting task, there are a few simple techniques to increase how much your writing appeals to your readers.

1. Use a conversational tone

Your audience will feel more connected to you if you use a conversational tone in your blog post. It humanises your brand and is far more straightforward to write than a formal tone. You can let more of your personality shine through in your writing, and writer’s block will be considerably less likely to stop your natural creative flow.

2. Be relatable

Write about topics or events that your customers will understand. For example, if you know your readers will use certain industry jargon, incorporate it in your blog post. It shows that you’re passionate about your subject and that you’re writing TO, not AT, your audience.

3. Use images and video

Images and videos are a great approach to simplify and enhance your written material at the same time. Videos and images are simple to understand, interesting, and may be used to break up long blocks of text.

4. Make it easy to read

Long, rambling paragraphs should be avoided. Stick to brief sentences to avoid making your reader feel as though they’re reading a novel. Use bullet points, lists, and headlines to make your argument. Your article should pass the skim test.

5. Write now and edit later

While you’re writing, resist the impulse to correct a mistake or rephrase a sentence. This has the potential to derail the entire creative process. Simply jot down everything that comes to mind, and then trim the fat/make the necessary changes later.

Writing blog posts is an integral part of establishing your authority in your chosen niche, it’s also vital for SEO. Writing a compelling blog post should be an enjoyable experience, though it sometimes feels like a chore. Following these tips, looking for and noting down inspiration, the questions your customers ask, and creating a content schedule can really help with motivation.

Think of it like this. If you write one post a week you end up with fifty two indexable pages on your site each year. All of those pages should have a prominent call to action to capture leads. Any of the published articles that attract significant traffic can become the basis of an eBook or some form of lead magnet you can use for further lead generation.
