The Brief
The Client came to us by referral, after some disappointing experiences in their quest to get a website up and running.
The brief was to create an eCommerce site based on their very simple design and cartoon like illustrations that would create another channel to sell their series of books. They also sell the books through other online publishing channels.
Our Approach
From a design and product perspective the site was nice and simple. We took their design, with it’s nice and quirky elements, and modified it to suit the requirements of a responsive website.
We chose to use WooCommerce as the eCommerce engine for this site.
The product catalogue was simply seven books, they ship them to Australian customers so shipping through Australia Post made perfect sense.
We built the site using a custom child theme of the WooCommerce Storefront theme. Pretty standard stuff.
We used the, as then new, Gutenberg editor, WooCommerce blocks, and a couple of add on blocks from commercial vendors. The block based editor was new and exciting, but still changing rapidly.
The payment gateway we used is Stripe, for shipping we used the WooCommerce Australia Post ( Pro version ) plugin as it integrates nicely with Australia Post’s services and pricing.
The Result
The site went live in March 2019. It’s been steadily selling books ever since.
We continue to host and manage the site. Our minimal use of plugins, choice of an easily maintained theme, and attention to security, means the site has been rock solid with no issues since the day it was launched.
